How to use the Password Generator

  1. Set the password length

Drag the slider to choose a length from 4 to 64 characters. 16 characters is the recommended default for most accounts. Go higher for critical accounts like email and banking.

  2. Choose character types

Tick or untick uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Including all four types produces the strongest passwords.

  3. Select how many to generate

Choose 1, 3, 5, or 10 passwords at once. Generating multiple options lets you pick one that's easier to type if needed.

  4. Copy and save

Click Copy next to any password to copy it to your clipboard. Use a password manager like Bitwarden, 1Password, or Dashlane to store it securely.

About this Password Generator

Password security is one of the most impactful steps you can take to protect your online accounts. Despite widespread awareness campaigns, 'password', '123456', and 'qwerty' remain among the most commonly used passwords in the world. A strong, unique password for every account is the single biggest thing most people can do to reduce their risk of being hacked. The mathematics are unambiguous. An 8-character password using only lowercase letters has about 200 billion possible combinations — a modern GPU can crack it in minutes. A 16-character password with all character types has more possible combinations than there are atoms in the observable universe, making brute-force attacks computationally infeasible. Our password generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server — the generation happens locally using the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random source. We never log, store, or transmit generated passwords. The strength meter evaluates your settings in real time based on length, character variety, and overall entropy. The best practice after generating a password is to store it in a dedicated password manager rather than your browser's built-in save feature. Password managers provide end-to-end encryption, cross-device sync, breach monitoring, and auto-fill — making strong unique passwords practical to use everywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

A strong password is long (12+ characters), uses a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols, and avoids dictionary words, names, or dates. Length is the single most important factor — a 16-character random password is exponentially harder to crack than an 8-character one.

Security experts recommend at least 12 characters for most accounts and 16+ for important ones like email, banking, and cloud storage. Our generator defaults to 16 characters. Each additional character multiplies the time to brute-force by the size of the character set.

Our password generator runs entirely in your browser — no passwords are sent to any server. The generation uses the browser's crypto API (window.crypto), which is cryptographically secure. We never log or store generated passwords.

A memorable password uses pronounceable patterns or real words arranged randomly (e.g. 'correct-horse-battery-staple'), making it easier to remember while still being long enough to be secure. A fully random password is harder to remember but more resistant to dictionary attacks. Use a password manager to store random passwords.
