How to use the Decision Wheel

  1. Enter your options

Type your choices into the text box, one per line. The wheel will automatically update with your options, each in a different colour.

  2. Add weights (optional)

To make some options more likely, add a colon and a number after the option name. For example: 'Pizza:3' gives Pizza three times the chance of an unweighted option.

  3. Click Spin

The wheel animates and slows to a stop on your result. The winner is displayed prominently below the wheel.

  4. Act on the result

Accept the result, or use 'Remove & re-spin' to eliminate the winner and spin again from the remaining options. 'Spin again' keeps all options in the pool.

About this Decision Wheel

The spinning wheel has been a fair decision-making tool for centuries — from game show Wheels of Fortune to classroom random name pickers. The animated wheel taps into something psychologically satisfying: seeing the decision play out visually and watching the outcome emerge through deceleration creates a shared, transparent moment that feels fairer than a silent random pick. Our decision wheel uses the Web Crypto API for its random selection, which means every option genuinely has an equal (or appropriately weighted) chance. The animation is purely cosmetic — the winning slice is determined the moment you click Spin, and the wheel simply animates to that predetermined result. The weighted options feature is genuinely useful. Suppose you're deciding where to eat dinner and two people want pizza but only one wants sushi — enter "Pizza:2" and "Sushi:1". The wheel will give Pizza twice the arc and twice the probability. Weights can be any positive number: "Coffee:0.5" gives it half the chance of an unweighted option. The remove-and-re-spin feature makes the wheel useful for sequential selections — assigning project tasks, picking a batting order, or ensuring every person in a group gets a turn. As each winner is removed, the remaining options expand to fill the wheel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Enter your options — one per line — and click Spin. The wheel animates and lands on a randomly selected option. Each option has an equal chance of being selected unless you add weights. The result is displayed prominently and saved to your history.

Weighted options let you give some choices a higher probability of being selected. Add a weight after a colon, for example 'Pizza:3' gives Pizza three times the chance of an unweighted option. This is useful when you want some options to be more likely than others.

Absolutely. The decision wheel is great for teams choosing where to have lunch, which task to tackle first, assigning responsibilities, or any group decision. Project the result on screen or share your screen — the spinning animation makes it a fun, transparent process.

Yes. After the wheel lands on a result, click 'Remove & re-spin' to permanently remove that option from the wheel and spin again. This is useful for elimination rounds or ensuring different options are picked over multiple spins.
